LCPS Celebrates National School Lunch Week!
Louisa County Public Schools is proud to celebrate National School Lunch Week in October 2026 and recognize the incredible work of our School Nutrition team!
Each day, our School Nutrition professionals work behind the scenes to make sure students across Louisa County have access to nutritious, delicious meals that help them stay energized, focused, and ready to learn.
And they serve a lot of meals!

During the 2025–2026 school year, our School Nutrition team served more than 992,000 meals to students across LCPS. Their work continued throughout the summer, when our 2026 Summer Meals Program served more than 70,000 meals to children throughout our community.
A Tradition More Than 60 Years Strong
National School Lunch Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to highlight the importance of healthy school lunches and the positive impact they have on children both inside and outside the classroom.
The National School Lunch Program itself dates back even further. Created in 1946, the program was designed to provide nutritious meals to children and ensure that students have the fuel they need to learn, grow, and succeed.
Today, the National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children every school day across the United States. In addition to helping reduce childhood hunger, the program supports student wellness, academic success, and American agriculture.
Here in Louisa County, we see the impact of school meals every single day.
During National School Lunch Week (which LCPS will celebrate on October 19-23), we encourage our families and community members to join us in saying THANK YOU to the dedicated members of our School Nutrition team. From preparing and serving meals to greeting students with a smile, they play an important role in making our schools great places to learn.
Happy National School Lunch Week, TeamLCPS!
