Asynchronous Day Opportunities!

Volunteer teams made up of students and staff helped brighten up the community on September 14 as Louisa County Public Schools held its first Asynchronous Learning Day of the school year.

Louisa County Public Schools is hosting five Asynchronous Learning Days during the 2022-2023 school year. While there is no in-school instruction on these days, the school division uses these days as opportunities to host various community service projects for students of all ages.

On Wednesday, dozens of students and staff participated in a wide variety of activities aimed at promoting collaboration, citizenship, and teamwork. At the elementary level, students met up at various administrative buildings throughout the county to meet with local leaders. And in celebration of Constitution Day, students planted American flags, covered community sidewalks with patriotic artwork, and even distributed copies of trading cards containing the information of local leaders.

At the secondary level, students focused on brightening up the community! Students picked up trash at various community sites, freshened up each elementary school's student gardens, and helped organize supplies at the Louisa County Resource Council!

LCPS Superintendent Doug Straley said the students' efforts align with the school division's mission and vision.

"Our goal is to challenge every student to reach their maximum potential, and part of that is helping them become not just great students, but great people," Straley said. "To see our students and staff volunteering their time to brighten our community, to pick up trash, to plant American flags, and do things like that is truly inspiring. I am so proud of all of our volunteers and the lessons they learned today are just as valuable and impactful as the lessons they learn in the classroom."
