Superintendent's Update: January 17

Greetings TeamLCPS Families!

I cannot thank you all enough for a GREAT start to the second semester. We have had a fantastic first week back filled with a lot of hard work and positive attitudes. Obviously, winter weather delayed our start to the semester by a few days, but you all were cooperative and supportive the entire way through.  We have an amazing TEAM and COMMUNITY here in Louisa County.

Speaking of winter weather, I wanted to send you an update today about our Make-Up Day schedule. Our calendar and school days are constructed in such a way that banked instructional time is accrued throughout the school year.  This allows for our first 10 missed days to be made up using this banked time.  This proactive approach has put us in a good position at this time, and I want to keep you as informed and prepared as possible as we continue through this semester and potentially more winter weather in the weeks ahead.

To this point, we have missed six instructional days this school year. Here is a look at our Make-Up Schedule as it currently stands:

  • Days 1-6: Made up through using banked time.
  • Days 7-10: These days would be made up using banked time.
  • Day 11: February 17 would become a regular school day.
  • Day 12: March 17 would become a regular school day.
  • Day 13-15: Remote Learning Days

NOTE:  days missed beyond 15 would require additional instructional time to be made up.

As noted on the schedule, Days 13-15 would be Remote Learning Days to make up for missed instructional hours. On these days, students would be working on class assignments, which would be provided to them ahead of time by their teacher. In the coming days, your child’s principal will be communicating more specific details concerning what this process would look like, if needed.

As always, we believe that the best approach is to be proactive and prepared. We are grateful for your continued support and commitment to excellence.

Be on the lookout for more specific information from your child’s principal and please reach out if you have any questions.

Together, we are TeamLCPS!
