Superintendent's Update: June 24, 2021
Posted on 06/24/2021

Good afternoon TeamLCPS families!  We hope you are having an AWESOME day and enjoying some sunshine! It’s hard to believe we have almost reached the end of June! Time is FLYING by!

We're providing this update for you to give you the latest update on two topics:

  • The latest mandates/guidelines from The Governor’s Office, the CDC, the VDH, and the Blue Ridge Health District.

  • LCPS Summer School and our Two-Year Learning Recovery Plan.

First up, the latest from The Governor’s Office and health officials. Not a lot has changed since our last update on June 8th, but both The Governor’s Office and the CDC have stated they will release new guidelines and expectations for schools in the near future. We are eagerly awaiting these guidelines and once we receive them, we will share the details of what this means for LCPS.

We also want to provide you with a quick update on LCPS Summer School and our Two-Year Learning Recovery Plan.

We started Summer School on June 14th and it has gone very well. I want to commend EVERYONE involved for doing a fantastic job as we look to help every student reach their maximum potential. A few highlights of LCPS Summer School include:

  • Expanding the program to include five weeks of in-school instruction.

  • A tremendous jump in enrollment numbers.

  • Adding additional teachers and IAs to the program

Finally, we are incredibly thankful for this team and the strategies that have been developed as part of our Two-Year Learning Recovery Plan. Here are just a few, exciting highlights:

  • Thanks to federal funding, we’ll be able to offer students who need extra assistance more opportunities for extended learning, Saturday school, and in-school interventions.

  • Thanks to federal funding, we are able to add math and literacy interventionists as well as instructional assistants at all four elementary schools and LCMS for the next TWO years.

  • We’ve added additional school and crisis counselors at ALL of our six schools.

As you can see, a lot of work has been done to ensure LCPS continues to SET THE STANDARD of excellence! And to all of our TeamLCPS families, I cannot thank you enough for your support and for continually encouraging your child to do their best!

TeamLCPS, thanks again for your support. It keeps us motivated as we continue to on our Journey to Greatness! And as a reminder, we will be back in touch later in July as more details come our way.

We are TeamLCPS!
