TES Students Become Published Authors

Dozens of Trevilians Elementary School students officially became published authors today.
The students in reading interventionist Michelle Forrest’s classes have spent the past few weeks writing and illustrating their very own books. And the subject of the book is someone they know very well! It’s Mrs. Forrest’s pet turtle, Sheldon!

Sheldon, an African Leopard tortoise, was adopted by Mrs. Forrest 8 years ago from her daughter, who serves in the Navy.
Throughout the past few weeks, each student was assigned a page in the book to create. So they filled each page with interesting facts about Sheldon and their very own illustrations.
Each student received their very own copy of the book today, and they were also able to get autographs from each other.
“I think the biggest benefit was that they say that it was applicable to real life, all the skills that they’ve been learning,” Forrest said. “They were practicing reading fluency because they read their piece over and over again. Spelling skills became important to them. So, it was all of the real-life skills that were put into it. And then when we saw the book when it was published, it just blew us all away!
Great job, Eagles!
